We Know IP Matters - Now What? Budgeting for and Growing your IP Portfolio
Â
Presented by Fenwick & West and Stephanie Gayden (Legal @ Goldman Sachs)
You already know that your Intellectual Property portfolio is important—if not critical—to your business. But how do you translate that awareness into action? We’ll address the roles played by different kinds of IP, and how each can be part of a well-formed strategy. We’ll also discuss how to develop and grow a portfolio, and how to budget in a way that makes IP a profit center rather than a cost center. We’ll illustrate how a company can start with a modest budget and determine what IP activities will provide positive cost-benefit within that budget. From that point, the company can expand its attention to IP until the next dollar invest barely provides a dollar’s worth of return. In this manner, the company should always be comfortable that it’s doing what makes sense with IP.
